Why is Black Friday called Black Friday?

Many people think that the day after Thanksgiving is called “Black Friday” because many stores start to make a profit on a massive shopping day and “fall into a loss.” The true origin of the term is a bit dark.

The Term Black Friday!

“Black Friday,” this term was first used on 24th September 1869. The two investors, Jim Fisk and Jay Gould, raised the gold price and caused a sharp drop that day. The stock market fell by 20%, and foreign trade ceased. Farmers’ wheat and corn harvests have fallen by 50%.

Philadelphia police used this term during the 1950s to refer to the day after Thanksgiving and before the Army-Navy game. A large number of tourists and shoppers visited the city that Friday and the police had to work for long hours to cover up the crowds and traffic. The area’s merchants tried to change its name from Black Friday to “Big Friday,” but this alternative name was never popular. By the late 1980s, “Black Friday” spread nationwide, and a more positive “red to black” background story emerged.

Friday is usually the most awaited day of the week. Most people are working a week when they close their studies and look forward to having fun on Friday nights and weekends. However, for a Friday every year, this day means something else entirely. Black Friday 2020 will happen again. Black Friday has become one of the most massive shopping days in the United States and other countries. Retailers lowered the prices of products such as smartphones, tablets, personal computers, and other electronic products. This year Black Friday is on the 27th of November 2020; yes, you heard it right, it’s Tomorrow.
