What if my AA flight gets Delayed?

If the airline delays or cancels your flight due to reasons within our control (as defined by APPR), you may be eligible for the following amount of compensation:

  • If the passenger is 3 hours or more late, but less than 6 hours, it will be 400 Canadian dollars;
  • Further, if a passenger is 6 hours or more late, but less than 9 hours, it will be $700.
  • If you get more than 9 hours late, the airline will impose a fine of 1,000 Canadian dollars.

And, If you are delayed 2 hours or more after the scheduled departure time due to reasons within the American Airlines passengers rights control, it will provide you with the following benefits:

  • Snacks and drinks, depending on how long you have been waiting, the time of day, and your location
  • Access communication equipment

If the delay or cancellation of your original flight requires you to stay overnight, AA will provide you with reasonable hotel accommodation at our expense. AA will also provide transportation to the hotel and back to the airport.

AA will respond to your request within 30 days and provide you with compensation. It will let you know the reason for the delay or cancellation.

In the event of a delay or cancellation, AA will immediately start looking for alternative travel arrangements. If you choose a refund instead of other travel arrangements, you will get compensation of $400 for the inconvenience.
